Workshop Foreman

Richard is the Workshop Foreman at KGJ Price Railway Contractors, bringing with him over 35 years of experience in the railway manufacturing industry. He began his career in 1990 with W. Hockings in Taffs Well, Cardiff, where he worked as a Fabricator Welder supporting rail infrastructure projects across the UK.

During his early career, Richard was heavily involved in the manufacture of small turnouts for Ministry of Defence sites, as well as the machining and fabrication of bespoke layouts for a wide range of clients. His work supported major industrial and heritage locations, including British Ports, steelworks, and numerous heritage rail sites nationwide.

Richard joined KGJ Price in 2006 as a Fabricator Welder, becoming part of a highly experienced and loyal manufacturing team. Over time, and as colleagues retired, Richard progressed into the role of Workshop Foreman, where he now leads and supports a team of approximately 15 skilled operatives.

In his current role, Richard’s focus is on delivering work safely, on time, and to the exact requirements of the client. He works closely with the Production Manager and wider business to coordinate workloads, manage resources, and continuously improve efficiency within the workshop. Richard is known for sharing knowledge, mentoring others, and promoting best practice recognising that experience and time-served skills are vital in a specialist industry built on repeat business and long-term client relationships.
